Like all small ethnic groups of the far southern Omo area, they practice a combination of pastoralism and shifting agriculture, which is mainly rain-fed, even though the water of the Omo is readily available. The main aspect of their life and economy is cattle-based and wealth is measured by the number of cattle owned. These people are famous for their hair styles, body painting and the very rare to see ‘bull-jumping’, which an amazing and glorious part of their culture. This is practiced by young men in order to qualify them for marriage. A man can choose a wife after successfully accomplishing the bull-jump. In the afternoon we will visit a typical Konso town, Mecheke, where Angela Fisher did much of her exquisite photography of the Konso tribe. Judging by the number of Olahita poles, the town is at least 400 years old. There are four groups of waga grave markers left in Mecheke, some estimated to be more than 150 years old.
We will also drive to an isolated hill surrounded by juniper forest to visit the compound of Chief Walda Dawit Kalla, the clan chief of the Kertita clan, an important patrilineal unit of Konso society. There are nine clans, each of which is represented by an elected local headman in every Konso village. The paramount chief of a clan acts as a spiritual guru and in a judicial role. He and his immediate family live in total isolation in order to have no involvement in the day-to-day affairs of the community, thereby ensuring his impartiality when settling intra-clan disputes and crimes. The clan chief title is strictly hereditary and Chief Dawit is the 19th in a line that has lived in the same compound for about 500 years. The Kerita lineage is one of only three of the nine original clans to have survived. Chief Dawit’s compound is a fascinating and atmospheric place, cluttered with chiefly artefacts ranging from beer vats to furniture, and the chief himself is a gracious and welcoming host. In the forests outside the compound several waga statues mark the graves or earlier chiefs and their wives.  Then, proceed to Arbaminch. Balance of the day, boat trip on Lake Chamo to the Place called Crocodile Market. O/n Swayness Hotel overlooking Lake Chamo and Abaya.
Day 19 Drive from Arbaminch to Lake Langano 320 km, 6 hours.
After breakfast, we drive up to Chencha. The town is set at an altitude of 2 900 m in the Guge Hills north of Arbaminch. A dramatic series of switchbacks that take us 1 600 m higher in a mere 22 km, brings us to the home of the Dorze people, who are renowned as cotton weavers. Their up to 6 m tall bee-hive-shaped dwellings constructed entirely from organic materials − bamboo sticks, grass and enset (false banana) − are among the most distinctive traditional structures to be seen anywhere in Africa. The main concentration of traditional houses is at the village of Dorze, where we will also make a stop. Later, proceed to Sodo for lunch. After lunch, drive to Lake Langano via Shashemene. O/n Sabana Lodge.

Day 20- Drive to Addis Ababa 220 km, 4 hours.
After breakfast drive to Addis Ababa via Ziway, Tiya and Adadi Mariam. Passing the town of Bulbula, we come to Ziway and Lake Ziway (430 km2), the northernmost of Ethiopia’s natural Rift Valley lakes and the largest of the four in this area. Here the main road is left to visit to visit the rock-hewn church of Adadi-Maryam and the prehistoric Melka Kunture archaeological site. Exit the Great Rift Valley between Ziway and Butajira, which lies at the heart of the country of the Gurage. This mountainous area lies at the southern of the central highlands.
On the way, visit The Tiya Stone Stele. The other visit involves the Melka Kunture Prehistoric Site opposite Melke Awash on the Awash River. Considered to be one of the most important Stone Age sites in Ethiopia, it represents a fossil record of more than a million years. The first major excavations at the site took places between 1965 and 1981 and further excavations occurred in the 1990s. The site hosts numerous Stone Age artefacts, including cleavers, hand-axes and other tools made from basalt and obsidian. It also has important fossil beds of extinct mammal species. Several H. erectus fossils have been found dating to 1.5 to 1.7 million years ago, as well as cranial fragments of early H. sapiens. A small, excellent site museum and a mammal fossil bed will be seen.
From here we have 50 km to go before reaching Addis Ababa. We return to the Bole Ambassador Hotel. In the evening enjoy a farewell dinner with traditional dance in an Ethiopian restaurant. O/n Radisson BLU.

Day 21 Full day in Addis Ababa, visiting more places of interest in Addis, Coffee shopping and later dinner at the traditional Ethiopian Restaurant. After dinner and show, depart to Hong Kong by ET628 - 0040/1845.
